Many immigrants are entitled to be released while their deportation cases are pending and while pending they may be entitled to certain benefits (work authorization) and protection.
If you detained by immigration (ICE) or with an immigration HOLD, you can still be released and pursue to legalize your status while in freedom. Do not always accept the fact that you are to be detained.
